Important Changes in Email Processes at NC State

NC State emails important and timely information to students and employees (e.g., information about classes, student accounts, eBILLs, employment, benefits), so it is vital that the University have a correct email address for you at all times. You are responsible for keeping your address up-to-date. Beginning in Summer, 2007, the University is implementing important email process changes, and this page provides information about them.

Here is the timetable for these changes:

  • July 24, 2007 - New email processes for employees will be in place.
  • August 13, 2007 - For students, the Unity email address will become the only one used by NC State for official communication.
  • September 10, 2007 - New email processes for students will be in place with the upgrade to the new Student Information System (SIS).

Multiple Email Addresses

As a part of these changes, NC State will begin maintaining up to three email addresses for each member of the campus community:

  • Unity address
For all students and employees. If you need to forward your Unity mail to another address, go to https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-bin/usmdb-forwards and use the online tool.
  • "Business" address
Available for employees only. Administered by departmental personnel representatives.
  • "Other" address
Available for both students and employees. For entering students, this will be the address used during the admissions process.

Your Preferred Email Address

One of these three email addresses will be designated as your "preferred" one and will be the only address that the University will use for official communication with you. The rules for designating your "preferred" address depend on your status (e.g., student, employee):

  • If you are a currently enrolled student but not an employee, your Unity address will be your "preferred" one.
  • If you are an employee, your departmental personnel representative can designate your "Business" address as your “preferred” one if you wish. Otherwise, your Unity address will be your "preferred" one.
  • If you are someone with only an "Other" email address (e.g., student in the admission process), it will be your "preferred" one.

For Former Students and Employees

  • If you are a former student AND:
    • an active employee, your email address information will not change.
    • not an active employee, your Unity address will be deleted and your "Other" address will become your "preferred" one. This will occur on the census date (i.e., last day to register for classes) of the first Fall/Spring term that you are not enrolled as a student.
  • If you are a former employee, your "Business" address will be deleted 45 days after your separation.

Keeping Your Email Addresses Up to Date

  • Students
After September 10, 2007, you can visit the Student Self Service page on the Mypack portal (http://mypack.ncsu.edu) to update your "Other" email address, along with your postal mail and phone contact information.
  • Employees
Visit the Employee Self Service page on the Mypack portal (http://mypack.ncsu.edu) to view your "Business" email address. If you need to update it, your departmental personnel representative can modify it for you. If you have a non-NC State email account, be sure to keep your "Other" email address updated.
