Email Storage Space (Quota)

As part of your personal file storage space (disk quota), you have a certain amount of space initially allotted for email storage. You can increase this amount by using the Quota Allocation tool found at https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-bin/usmdb-quota. To avoid interruption of your email service, it is important that you use this tool to monitor your email storage space and delete or archive messages as needed to stay within your quota.

Frequently either your email Trash folder or the folder you have designated to receive spam will accumulate a large number of messages, exceeding the space you've chosen to allot for your email. Depending on your email program, you may or may not get a warning that this is about to happen. When it occurs, you will stop receiving new messages. To correct the situation, you will need to delete messages in a specific way. For instructions, see the frequently asked question on this topic.

For additional tips, see the page on Organizing and Using Email Effectively.
