Learning the Layout
Webmail is laid out in frames. In the left frame you will see the percentage of your email storage space that you're currently using, a list of your folders and other information. On the right are the messages
in the folder that is currently open, e.g., your Inbox.

| |
The left hand frame shows:
- The percentage of your email storage space that you are currently using.
See the page on file storage space to find out how to increase the amount of space devoted to storing your email or your other files.
- The last time Webmail was refreshed.
Webmail will refresh automatically
every 15 minutes, but you can do it manually by selecting "refresh
folder list." This shows any new messages and applies any
changes you have made in your folders.
- A list of your folders.
Select a folder to view its contents,
which will appear in the right hand frame.
The number of unread messages is shown in parentheses
( ). In this example, there are six unread messages in the Inbox.
If you've created subfolders, the parent folder will
have a plus (+) sign in front of it. Click on the + to reveal the
subfolders, and the + will change to a minus (-) sign. Click on
the - to hide the subfolders.
To change the width of the left frame, place your
cursor over the line separating the two frames, then click and drag
to the left or right. |
- When you log in, your Inbox folder will automatically
be displayed in the right hand frame. To read a message in it, simply
click on its subject.
- At the top left of the right hand frame are Compose,
Addresses, Folders,
Options, Search
and Help options. The SquirrelMail link on the right will take you to
the main page for the creators of this version of Webmail.
- When any folder is open you can move, forward, delete or undelete
messages in it. Use the "Read" or "Unread" button
to mark the status of a message as read or unread.
- If there are more messages in a folder than can be displayed on one
page in the right hand frame, buttons will appear above the "Move
Selected To" box allowing you to navigate among pages of messages.
- Select "Thread View" (below the "Move Selected To"
option box) to see messages that have the same subject or the same sender.
- To sort your messages by sender, date
received or subject, click on the rectangle next to the "From,"
"Date" or "Subject" heading. Default sorting is
by date, with the most recent messages listed first.

- At the lower right
corner of the right hand frame is an "Archive" link, which
allows you to export the contents of a folder, compress them and save
them elsewhere.
