Computing Services
Computing Services is a department of NC State's Office of Information Technology. Our mission is to support NC State students, faculty and staff
by providing and maintaining the information technology environment necessary
for successful accomplishment of their academic goals.
To accomplish our mission, we provide and maintain the following services:
Current Computing Services Roles
Many of these services are coordinated closely with other Office of Information Technology units.
- Application Development & Support: The development and support of applications for internal and external purposes (e.g. timeKeeper, LabZap, Cyclone, LDAP, Remedy web client)
- ClassTech: Design, consultation and implementation of AV technology, particularly in classrooms; support and maintenance of AV technology in classrooms and other spaces on campus.
- Collaborative Project Management: Work closely with other departments inside and outside of OIT to initiate, plan and carry out small and large-scale IT projects, e.g. Oracle Collaborative Suite, Campus-wide Calendaring & Email Initiative, OIT divisional web page redesign/branding
- Education/Training/Outreach: Education and training of faculty, staff and students; new student and employee orientation (e.g. Quickstart, NEO, NSO)
- HelpDesk Support: In collaboration with NC State Help Desk and Systems staff, provide Tier I and Tier II support of the NC State Help Desk (hardware/software)
- Instructional Technology R&D: Exploration of new technologies and their potential application for teaching and learning
- OIT Technical Support: Internal OIT staff computing support
- Lab/Kiosk Support: Support, maintenance, and installation of student computing environments
- Macintosh Support: Development, support, and maintenance for Apple Macintosh computers on campus
- Publications & Web development/maintenance: Development, support, and maintenance of OIT and non-OIT web presences; hard and soft copy publications (e.g. Computing@, Help! CD)
- Remedy: Development, support, and maintenance of Remedy Action Request System
- ResNet: Customer support and management of the campus residential network service provided to students living in campus residence halls, Wolf Village and on Greek Court
- SAS: Support and maintenance of SAS, oversight of SAS grant and project management of campus analytics initiative
- Software Licensing: Software license management, negotiation, and procurement for OIT and campus coordinated with colleges/departments and UNC GA
- Unity Account maintenance: Revise and create scripts to support Unity account system, provide needed data and analysis internally and externally, troubleshoot individual Unity account issues
