Edit Essentials

To edit pages in Adobe Contribute:

  1. Download a connection file (.zip file).
  2. Open Contribute and import the connection key. (See instructions.)
  3. Browse to the page to be reviewed.
Note: See the table below for a list of topic areas and starter URLs.
  4. Select the "edit button"
  5. Type your suggested changes/revisions.
  6. Select the "send for review" button and send the page back to ITD Pubs.
Note: if you need an internal review first, you can first send your draft to another member of your staff for an internal review. When you are ready to send the page to Pubs, click “Send for Review” and select the Contribute "Pubs" queue. Do not check the “Send Email” box when you send it to Pubs; we will check the drafts panel in Contribute to get pages you send

About Adobe Contribute

Contribute is available to all ITD staff as a stand-alone client or through VCL. If you need Contribute, contact Bill Coker (515-5419). Bill can get the software to you. Contribute is not yet available for Linux, so if you are using Linux, you can only access Contribute through the IT Pubs VCL image (vcl.ncsu.edu).

We have sent you a Contribute connection key, which you can use for making your connection to the Essentials website. When you have Contribute on your computer, download the key to your desktop and import it through Contribute. You will have review access to all pages in the Essentials website. If you access Contribute through VCL, you will need to start a VCL session and download the Contribute key through email in VCL onto your VCL desktop, then use the same procedure to import the key. Note: See the instructions below for importing Contribute connection keys. For the time being, the connection key process will have to be repeated for each VCL session.

The key gives you review capabilities and the "Send for Review" option, which creates a copy of your edits in a temporary file in AFS. Pubs can review and discuss these edits with you before we make the page(s) live. We will publish the pages after the Pubs review is complete. You can also review drafts within your own work group prior to forwarding your pages to Pubs for review.

If you need more information about this process, contact IT_Pubs@help.ncsu.edu. For information on using Contribute, see the following instructions.

Connection Keys

Using the Connection Wizard (Windows) or Connection Assistant (Macintosh), you can easily set up connections to websites for other users. The wizard enables Contribute users to collaborate by sharing website connections.

Contribute lets you share website connection information by embedding website information in a connection key file. Because the connection key is encrypted with a password, any network or Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) login information you send in the file remains secure and can be accessed only through Contribute. The connection key file uses the ‘stc’ extension.

Import a Key
