Fugu on a Macintosh

Fugu is a file transfer program for Macintosh versions 10.2.3 and newer with BSD subsystem installed. You can use it to connect to the Unity file system and securely transfer files between your Home folder and another location. Your password is protected during transfers.

Transferring between your computer and your Unity file space or Unity locker

  1. Double-click on the Hard Drive icon on your desktop.
  2. Open the Applications folder.
  3. Scroll to the Fugu icon and double-click on it.
  4. In the Connect to: field, type ftp.ncsu.edu.

    fugu

  5. In the Username field, type your Unity ID.
  6. Leave the Port field blank.
  7. If you're connecting to your own Unity file space, leave the Directory field blank. If you're connecting to your locker, type its complete path (/afs/...) into the Directory field.
  8. Click on the Connect button.
  9. When prompted, enter your Unity password.
  10. Click on the Authenticate button.
  11. Your local machine should appear in the pane on the left (labeled "Local" at the bottom), and the Home folder in your Unity file space should appear on the right (labeled "ftp.ncsu.edu"). To move a file from one of these locations to the other, just drag-and-drop.
  12. When you are finished with all your transfers, quit Fugu to close the connection.

Transferring to or from another person's Home folder, a course locker or a personal locker

  1. Contact the owner of the particular folder or locker and make sure that you have sufficient access privileges for the type of transfer you want to make.
  2. Follow steps 1-6 above, entering ftp.ncsu.edu and your Unity ID as indicated.
  3. In the Directory textbox, type the desired path from the table below.

  4. For file transfer to this location Type this path in the Directory textbox after you change the italicized words to fit your situation (see below)
    Another person's Home folder /afs/unity/users/initial/ownerid/folder
    Course locker /afs/unity/lockers/class/course/folder
    Personal locker /afs/unity/lockers/users/initial/ownerid/folder

    Be sure to change:

course to the official NC State designation for the course
folder to the name of the desired folder inside the Home folder or locker
initial to the first letter of the Unity ID of the owner of the Home folder or personal locker
ownerid to the Unity ID of the owner of the Home folder or personal locker

  5. Click on the Connect button.
  6. When prompted, enter your Unity password.
  7. Click on the Authenticate button.
  8. Your Unity file space appears on the right (labeled "ftp.ncsu.edu"). On the left you should see the contents of the folder in the other Home folder, course locker or personal locker.
  9. Drag-and-drop the desired file.
  10. When you are finished with all your transfers, quit Fugu to close the connection.
