URLs for Folders Managed with OpenAFS

This page shows you how to construct the URL for any folder that is managed with OpenAFS. It also provides the access privileges normally used for certain types of folders. To create the URL for a specific folder, you will need to know the:

  • transfer protocol to be used (http, ftp)
  • type of user accessing the desired folder (Unity user, anyone)
  • location of that folder (AFS® Home folder, NC State course locker, personal locker)

NOTE: The URL formats provided here will take you to the folder level only. To get to a specific file, you will need to append the file name to the format. Examples of URLs with file names included are given below. In addition, the italicized parts of the folder-level URL formats are ficticious, given as examples only. It is essential that you replace these with their counterparts from your own real-life situation so that your URLs will work properly.

To make sure you have correctly formatted a complete URL (including the file name), type it into your Web browser and view the page. Once you have verified that the URL works, you may want to add it to your bookmarks.

For your convenience, below are quick lookup tables that link you to the procedure for constructing a desired folder URL. They are organized by file transfer protocol, type of user accessing the folder and the folder’s location. Each link in the right-hand column of a table will take you to the URL format for a specific combination of protocol, user and location.
