Accessing AFS® with a Macintosh
Using OpenAFS at North Carolina State University

Introduction

These pages provide a step-by-step illustrated guide for Macintosh users at North Carolina State University to access and use AFS®. They are designed for those users who already have a working knowledge of the Macintosh operating system and consequently contain only a limited amount of basic operating information. Those who need to acquire these skills can use the tutorial found in the Macintosh operating system’s Help menu.

Download OpenAFS for 10.3.x
NOTE: This version of OpenAFS works only on 10.3.x. It will not work on 10.4. A version for 10.4 is being developed for use at NC State.

OpenAFS is the primary interface for accessing and manipulating AFS® at NC State. It is more user-friendly than command-line AFS® tools in managing folders and files in a Unity account.

This guide, with its page on advanced topics and troubleshooting, should help to resolve nearly all problems that may be encountered when working with OpenAFS. For situations not covered here, visit http://help.ncsu.edu or contact help@ncsu.edu.

Notation used in this guide

  • Italicized text indicates one of the following:
  • All capital text indicates a key on the Macintosh keyboard. Example: RETURN.
  • Bold all capital text indicates a NOTE.
