Unity Prompt (unity%)

There are different ways to access the Unity prompt, depending on the computer you are using and your location. It's best to access NC State's secure server, ssh.ncsu.edu, using a secure shell (SSH) compatible program such as PuTTy. Here are step-by-step instructions for various situations:

Windows workstation in a Unity lab

  1. In the Novell applications window, double click on the icon labeled "PuTTY (SSH)."
  2. In the box labeled "Host Name (or IP Address)," type: ssh.ncsu.edu
  3. For Protocol, select the radio button labeled "SSH."
  4. Select the "Open" button at the bottom of the window.
NOTE: You may get a message indicating that the Server's Host Key is not cached in the registry. If you are sure you are connecting to the correct host (i.e., ssh.ncsu.edu) then select Yes.
  5. At the "login as:" prompt, type your Unity ID.
  6. At the "Password:" prompt, type your Unity password.
  7. If you have successfully logged in, the Unity prompt (unity%) will appear at the bottom of the window.
  8. When you are finished entering commands in the Unity environment, type exit.
