The purpose of this site is to provide a central location of up-to-date information for the entire campus community about software licensing and acquisition.

By making this information available, faculty, staff and students can take advantage of the many licensing agreements, reducing the overall cost of software licensing for the university.

08.22.2008 Software Updates Available
New versions of major software titles are now available for download. These include Matlab 2008a, Maple 12 and Mathematica 6.0.3. As well, a new distribution of SPSS 16 (including the latest patches) is available for download.
07.24.2008 Recent License Server Updates
ESRI, Mathematica and Matlab license servers were recently updated for another year, extending the expiration dates until mid 2009.
07.21.2008 Windows Server Site License
NC State now holds an unlimited site license for Windows Server products made possible by funding from OIT. The site license is an amendment to the Windows Server Client Access License (CAL) Microsoft Campus Agreement that OIT negotiated in the past.
06.25.2008 Renew Your Mathematica License
The renewal date for the Mathematica license is approaching and you will be required to renew your license in order to continue using the software. Instructions for renewing your Mathematica license can be found on the Mathematica License Renewal page.

SAS License Updates are Now Available

We are pleased to announce that SAS license updates are now available.   SAS has required that older versions be updated and we now currently license and support SAS 9.1.3, SAS 8.2 and JMP 7. All license updates can be downloaded via the update form available here.  Updates are limited to NCSU affiliated individuals. You will need your Unity ID and password to obtain an updated license. Instructions for applying the license updates are available on the Products page. Please send an email to sas_help@ncsu.edu if you have questions, can't find a particular license or have trouble applying your license.

03.20.2008 MathType Equation Editor 6.0 for Windows is Available for Download
Through the efforts of the Department of Statistics, NC State has a campus wide site license for MathType Equation Editor 6.0 for Windows. MathType Equation Editor is a powerful interactive tool that changes the way you create print and web-based documents that contain math.
02.25.2008 Respondus Available for Download
Through the efforts of DELTA, NC State has a campus wide site license for Respondus, a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard or WebCT.  The site license makes the software available to NCSU faculty and staff at no charge.
02.07.2008 Microsoft Users Group
On February 20, the second Microsoft Users Group will meet to discuss Vista and Office deployment (BDD vs. SMS). All are invited. The meeting will take place in 219 Scott Hall from 9:30 - 11:30.
01.15.2008 Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 FAQ Now Available
With the official release of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 on January 15, 2008, there have been many questions regarding its availability under the various Microsoft agreements at NC State. This FAQ will address the more commonly asked questions.
01.14.2008 ArcPad 7.1 and ArcPad Application Builder 7.1 Now Available for Download
The newest versions of ArcPad and ArcPad Application Builder are now available for download. ArcPad provides mapping, GIS, and GPS integration to field users via handheld and mobile devices. Data collection with ArcPad is fast and easy and improves field-based data validation and availability.
01.02.2008 SPSS Available for Download
Through the combined efforts of CHASS and the Office of Information Technology, a site license for SPSS has been acquired. The new site license provides the entire NCSU campus with rights to install SPSS on any university computer as well as the personal computers of NCSU faculty and staff.
11.12.2007 Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) Media Now Being Distributed
If you participate in the Apple Maintenance Program (AMP) and have purchased installation media for $15, you should have been notified via email that your Leopard media is now available for pickup. If you participate in AMP and would like to purchase Leopard DVD media, please visit the Maintenance and Media Request form.
11.05.2007 Mac OS X Maintenance Renewal
OIT has just renewed the Apple Maintenance Program (AMP) which will provide Mac OS updates until September 2010. To take advantage of this offer and to keep your Mac OS updated to the latest release (Leopard), please visit the Maintenance and Media Request form.
08.15.2007 Keyserver Clean-Up Underway
Many old and obsolete versions of applications were removed today from keyserver.ncsu.edu as first indicated by the announcement last month. Full details can be found at the Keyserver Clean-Up page on the Software@NC State web site.

ESRI ArcGIS License Renewed

You may or may not have received an expiration warning when launching ESRI products using the ESRI license server. The license has been renewed, extending the expiration date to July 31, 2008.

ITD has purchased a Campus Agreement with Microsoft that covers Windows CALs (client access licenses). We have paid for the first year already (we have a 3-year option). In cooperation with ETSS, we were able to cover all faculty and staff. This includes university-owned equipment in student computing labs.In addition, ITD has purchased the "student option", which covers student-owned equipment. Windows CALs allow people to connect to Windows servers and use Active Directory services such as authentication.

06.11.2007 Maple 11 Now Available
Maple 11 is now available to faculty and staff through the Software@NC State's Software Request form. Once requested, it can be picked up at the ITD Help Desk.
06.04.2007 LabZapp 2007 Results
ITD conducted a month long survey of the university community to determine what software applications and their versions best suit the teaching and learning needs in the NC State Windows Unity labs. The results are now available.

Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP) Renewed

The Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP) has been renewed for an additional two years. Renewals of maintenance and new orders can now be placed.

Windows Unity Lab Application Survey (LabZapp)

ITD is conducting a survey of the university community to determine what software applications and their versions best suit the teaching and learning needs in the NC State Windows Unity labs. The LabZapp survey will be conducted from April 30, 2007 until May 31, 2007.

WebDrive Site License Now Available

The College of Education and CHASS has secured a campus site license for the FTP client WebDrive. The software is now a free download to all NC State students, faculty and staff.

ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 2 Released

ESRI has released service pack 2 for ArcGIS 9.2. It is recommended that you also download and install this service pack.

Microsoft Select Prices to Rise

Effective April 1, Microsoft will be increasing prices for Microsoft Select all across the board. It is said to be approximately one percent more than the current published prices. The Microsoft Select pricesheet will be updated in a few days by SHI, the reseller who currently holds the Select agreement with NC State.

ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 and ArcInfo Workstation 9.2 are now available for FREE to all students, faculty and staff. The software can be downloaded from the Software@NC State's Get Software page.

Matlab License Server Updated

The Matlab license server was updated today to Matlab R2007a. The R2007a version of Matlab will be available to faculty and staff in the next few days.

Adobe Releases Beta Version of Photoshop CS3

Adobe is delivering a widely available Photoshop CS3 beta to enable customers to more easily transition to the latest hardware platforms, particularly Apple’s new Intel-based systems. The final shipping release of Adobe Photoshop CS3 is planned for Spring 2007. The software can be downloaded at:

Changes to Adobe Acrobat Licensing

With the release of Adobe Acrobat 8, Adobe has changed the way it licenses Acrobat. The two major changes include eliminating the concurrent licensing model as well as integrating Adobe License Manager (ALM) technology into new product releases.

Autodesk is offering new academic solutions available for NC State students from e-academy. These new solutions provide your students with access to Autodesk design tools for general design and drafting, architecture, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and animation for as little as $99 for an annual license.

Purchasing New Matlab Toolboxes
PAMS, Engineering and Information Technology have developed the new business practice for purchasing Matlab toolboxes and adding them to the campus-wide Matlab license.

Microsoft will require Volume Activation for Vista
On October 4, 2006, Microsoft announced that volume license customers will have to activate their installation of Windows Vista. Previously volume license customers were exempted from having to activate their Windows installation.

Autodesk has made a suite of Autodesk applications available to students at no charge. Design students and faculty can download free student editions of Autodesk software through the Student Design Community sponsored by Autodesk. This is a FREE website for design students in the fields of architecture, construction, civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
