Personal File Storage Space (disk quota)
Your Unity account comes with 350 MB of personal file storage space (disk quota), divided into three categories:
- AFS space
where unityid and initial represent your Unity ID and its first letter.
- Novell space
When you use a Windows
machine in a Unity lab, this space holds your profile data as well as any files you save onto the machine's desktop or M: drive.
Checking or reallocating your storage space
- Go to https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-bin/usmdb-quota and log in with your Unity ID and password. On this page is a table showing your current space usage and current quota for each of the above categories (AFS, Email, Novell).
- For each category there is a text box in the right hand column ("New Quota") containing a number that indicates your current allocation in that category.
- To change your allocation for a category, double click on the number in the box and type in a new one. This new number must be within the range indicated by the numbers in parentheses below the box; it cannot be lower than your current usage in that category.
- The revised total of the three boxes will appear in the "New Total Quota" box.
- When you have made all the changes you want, click on the "Submit Change Request" button at the bottom of the table. If you have difficulty allocating your space, contact the NC State Help Desk.
Getting more space
Purchased user space
If you've re-allocated your 350 MB of file storage space as described above and still don't have enough,
then you may want to purchase additional space. Go to https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-bin/usmdb-purchase and fill out the online form. You will need to log in with your Unity ID and password. Space is available
in 100 MB increments at a yearly rate for all students, faculty and staff who have
accounts.
Locker space
You can also purchase locker space, which must be used only for University business. See Using Unity Lockers for more details.
Free course space
If you are faculty or staff
and want to put your course on the Web, you can obtain a course locker free of charge through WolfWare. To request one, go to https://wolfware.ncsu.edu/wrap-bin/admintool?task=rnl. For additional information about WolfWare, see http://wolfware.ncsu.edu/help/. If you have any questions concerning course lockers, contact a NC State Help Desk Consultant
