The status of deliverables
for initiative
The following deliverables
were listed in the ITD Compact Plan, 2000:
- Produce BIT CD for
new students, "Computing Essentials at NC State" (May 2000; delivered to all
new students at New Student Orientation 2000)
Status, 2001: Revised and expanded CD produced for New Student Orientation,
2001
- Increase hands-on IT
training for new students (June 2000; Computing Services staff taught 71 training
sessions for the more than 3500 students during Orientation 2000)
Status, 2001: Due to reduction of available Computing Services staff,
will not offer hands-on training to all students attending Orientation. However,
training opportunities are planned for early in fall semester for students
who need help with IT
- Survey faculty, students,
and research data to help define what basic information technology competencies
are needed for students to succeed at NC State (Survey conducted during 2000
Orientation)
Status 2001: Two ITD staff members are leading a subcommittee of Council
on Undergraduate Education which is reviewing and updating the NCSU General
Education Requirements for Communication and Information Technology to reflect
a more sophisticated understanding of technology literacy for NCSU students
and graduates. ITD staff are also participating in Virtual Orientation Project.
Plans for assessment of IT fluency of all new students continue and will be
implemented as resources allow.
The impact of the
initiative to date
Advancing this Initiative
beyond Orientation activities will depend upon the availability of additional
funding for staff and resources. Efforts to obtain funding continue.
