Service
Type:
E-mail
Brief
description of service:
OIT provides IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) e-mail services for
Unity/Eos e-mail accounts. The IMAP e-mail system stores both new and read
e-mail messages on NC State IMAP servers. IMAP messages can be read and reread from anywhere with an Internet
connection.
NC State Unity IMAP users may read
their e-mail on the Web by logging in to http://webmail.ncsu.edu
and using NC
State Webmail. No additional e-mail client software
(such as Eudora, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) is needed. However, most
e-mail client software is compliant with IMAP, and can be used for
features not available with NC State Webmail.
Unity IMAP accounts include IMAP quota
(file space on IMAP server). This is in addition to the personal Unity file
space provided for all University computing account holders.
Log in to the Quota Allocation tool to manage this allocation.
Clients
eligible for service:
All NC State students; many faculty and staff also use these services.
In August 2007, Unity e-mail addresses were designated the official
campus e-mail address for all NC State students. This is the e-mail address
to which official e-mail communication from NC State is sent. However,
students who prefer to receive their e-mail elsewhere can
have their e-mail forwarded by using the online
E-mail Forwarding Service.
Type
of use:
University business
or personal use
Cost:
There is no additional charge for basic Unity
IMAP service and IMAP quota. Additional
quota can be purchased annually. For more information, see.E-mail Storage Quota
To obtain
service:
New students have
received IMAP e-mail accounts by default since summer, 2000. As
of November, 2001, all newly hired faculty and staff automatically receive
IMAP e-mail accounts with their Unity account privileges. Unity POP
e-mail services were discontinued in February, 2006.
Rules
of use:
All NC State computer and network resources are governed
by Administrative
