Mailing List Services

Brief description of service:
E-mail distribution lists to which users may subscribe and unsubscribe are typically called list serves or mailing list services. Some mailing lists are set up by list owners to distribute newsletters or announcements to subscribers, others are more open and allow any subscriber to send messages to all subscribers. OIT currently uses Majordomo2 mailing list server to provide these services at NC State.

Clients Eligible for service:
NC State faculty, staff, professional NC State affiliated organizations, registered student organizations

Type of use:
Mailing lists are not provided for "Personal Use," as defined in Section III of the Administrative Regulations - Computer Use, below. Mailing list services are provided for University-related activities, including academic, research, student organization and outreach.

Duration of service:
Annual renewal; see details below.

Cost:
No additional fees are charged for this service.

To request a new e-mail list or to subscribe to an existing list, visit lists.ncsu.edu

Additional service procedures/restrictions:
List owners will be sent an e-mail message early in the fall semester of each year to renew or discontinue their Mailing List(s). If there is no response after 30 days, a message will be sent to the list(s). If there is no response after 30 days or if no one will act as list owner, the list will be disabled.
