Brief description of service:
An e-mail alias provides an easy to remember alternative e-mail address that in turn points to the real physical address where people read their e-mail. The actual e-mail address may change, but the alias can be updated to point to a new address. E-mail aliases at NC State are created typically in the form firstname_lastname@ncsu.edu.

Clients eligible for service:
NC State faculty, staff and graduate students

Type of use:
May be used for either University-related business or personal use (as restricted by University Policies and Regulations).

Duration of service:

To obtain service:
Send a message to accounts@ncsu.edu with the following information:
- the alias you would like to have (usually firstname_lastname@ncsu.edu)
- your actual full Internet email address
- the NC State department or unit with which you are affiliated

Notification will be returned to you via email, usually within a few hours.

Cost:
No fees are charged for this service.

.ncsu.edu mail aliases for individuals:
The naming convention on campus for faculty and staff aliases is firstname_lastname.ncsu.edu when this does not conflict with an existing alias. Aliases not conforming to this convention may be created if they
1. have more than 8 characters
2. or contain an underscore
