Telephone solicitations
from vendors have increased considerably and are disrupting the normal
flow of work. Receiving products on approval and/or for evaluation
and then having to return them entails considerable hassle. Part of
some solicitors' standard operating procedures generate sufficient
hassle in return procedures to encourage the recipient to accept and
pay for the product. To prevent the receipt of unwanted, unneeded,
and in many cases duplicated products, the following policy is established.
Only division managers
are authorized to accept products via telephone solicitations. Staff
members may not accept products for evaluation; nor should they engage
in lengthy conversations with telephone solicitors. ITD will not accept
financial responsibility for products received by a staff emember
as a result of not adhering to this policy.
Following is a suggested
response to telephone solicitations:
