Rules for Computer Room Use

The main computer room on the First Floor of Hillsborough Building, as well as the adjacent communications room and stock room, is heavily used by a number of departments in the building. These rooms are the central location for equipment critical to the computing and communications needs of the entire campus. Space is limited; activity is high.

The computer, communications, and stock rooms must be kept clear of trash and--as much as possible--unused equipment. This is necessary for the safety of all who work in these rooms, as well as for proper functioning of the equipment.

The following must be observed:

  1. Trash should be removed from these rooms ASAP. Cardboard, plastic bags, styrofoam packing, and other shipping material should be put into the trash cans or preferably, taken outside to the dumpsters. Trash should not be left on the floor, on tables, in the stockroom, or piled beside the loading dock door.

  2. Walkways and aisles should be kept clear. Equipment being staged for deployment/removal/repair and temporarily sitting on the floor is not a problem, but unused equipment should be moved to more suitable storage.

  3. Cables of any kind should never be left on the floor or hanging low from racks or wiring ladders. They are a safety hazard.

  4. Nothing should be stacked in front of electrical panels, fire/halon control panels, or fire extinguishers. In the event of an emergency, this would be a definite safety hazard.

Contact Tony Lawrence with any questions, concerns, comments, or requests regarding these spaces.
