Oracle acquires Steltor -
July 2nd 2002, Oracle Corporation acquired Steltor Corporation.
They are currently re-organizing their structure to continue the
high degree of support ITD had with the previous Steltor Corporation.

Oracle announced in a press release on July 15th, that Corporate Time
(ITD's calendaring product) will be renamed Oracle Calendar and will
be distributed as part of the Oracle Collaboration Suite.

Directory Services:
LDAP -
With further investigation and the aid of the fine folks
operating the PeopleSoft HR system, ITD has begun constructing
the table necessary to populate the databases which will be used
to construct the LDAP data for campus. Currently, the prototype
LDAP server, ldap.ncsu.edu, is online and has been used to power
such things as the Webmail address book to the VOIP online directory.

WINS service -
ITD has implemented a prototype WINS server for campus. wins.ncsu.edu

Email Services:
IMAP -
ITD is currently in the process of moving the 30,000+ IMAP
user accounts to the newer servers brought up late this summer.
ITD believes that the changes will make the service more reliable
and more responsive for its customer base.

Sendmail/Mail relay update -
Phase 1 and 2 of the original plan has been completed. All mail
relays for the university have been updated to the new service
as have all of the mail delivery points (POP and IMAP servers)
supported by ITD. Work continues on phase 3 design aspects which will
include such things as a "spam" filtering service and vacation
notification.
