The e-mail verbiage:

The Office of the State Auditor issued an audit report this month documenting an NCSU employee’s violation of both North Carolina law and an NC State Regulation. The violation committed entailed the use of a University computer to play on-line poker games and gamble for money. (See http://www.ncauditor.net/EPSWeb/Reports/Investigative/INV-2006-0309.pdf for the full report).

NC General Statute 14-292 prohibits gambling for anything of value in North Carolina (other than state-sponsored lotteries and charity events) and the NC State University Computer Use Regulation, REG 08.00.2, states that all “use of University computing systems and networks must comply with federal and state law.”

This type of violation of NC General Statute and NCSU Regulation is considered misconduct and consequences may include disciplinary procedures, revocation of access privileges, and/or civil prosecution.

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the University Computer Use Regulation at http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/informationtechnology/REG08.00.2.php . If you have any questions, contact your unit’s IT Director, the Information Technology Division (ITD), Resource Management and Information Systems (RMIS), Internal Audit, or Legal Affairs.
