University Information Technology Committee
About the University IT Committee
The University Information Technology Committe was orginally formed in 1992 by NC State's Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business as the North Carolina State University Computing Standards Committee (UCSC).The committee was restructured during the the spring of 2000 to give a greater voice to colleges and other key constituencies on campus. The restructured committee is a strategic policy-making body, although technical topics remain part of some discussions. Renamed the University Information Technology (IT) Committee in 2001, the committee meetings offer an important opportunity for the NC State community to collaborate on shaping the direction of IT development on the NC State campus. The committee continues to review current implementation of information technology and recommends appropriate university-wide standards and practices to maintain the effectiveness of IT on campus for both academic and administrative purposes.
Voting members include an appointed representative from the administration of each college, the Graduate School, NCSU Libraries, Undergraduate Affairs, Student Affairs, Staff Senate, Faculty Senate, Student Government, Research and the university's central administrative and academic IT units, the Office of Information Technology, and Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA). Ex-officio technical advisors participate in meetings but are not voting members of the committee. The committee is co-chaired by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Resource Management and Information Systems and the Vice Provost for Information Technology. The committee's recommendations are presented to the Provost and to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business, and when appropriate, to the Chancellor for final approval and implementation.
The University IT Committee meets six times a year. Unless otherwise announced, meetings are held 9:30-11 A.M. on the second Wednesday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September, November) in the Faculty Senate Chambers, DH Hill Library. All interested individuals are welcome to attend.
Revised and expanded University IT Committee Operating Guidelines were approved at the July 2006 meeting.
