Other HPC resources accessible to the NC State community

  • The Sam VCL Cluster cluster at MCNC has some HPC cycles available to NCSU users. No disk backups are available. Disk space is somewhat limited. NC State faculty confortable with working "without backup" and with limited disk space can request access for themselves or their students from gary_howell@ncsu.edu or eric_sills@ncsu.edu.

  • There are some other HPC machines accessible within the entire UNC system. These include shared memory machines and a cluster with a high speed interconnect. For more information about High Performance machines accessible within the entire UNC system:
    http://www.northcarolina.edu/content.php/ir/supercom/index.html

  • The NCSU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences maintains some HPC resources for its students, faculty, and staff. Notably there is a Linux Beowulf cluster "bigdog".

  • The Renaissance Computing Institute has a visualization and outreach facility at Partners Suite 1500 on Centennial Campus. Center for Visualization and Analytics

  • The United States government supplies computing resources through several agencies. DoD researchers may apply for accounts at MSRCs ERDC, NAVO, ASC, and ARL.

  • The National Science Foundation provides HPC computing resources, two sites used by some NC State faculty are:
National Center for Computational Sciences in conjunction with the DoE at Oak Ridge. Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center

Other sites include TACC and NCSA.

  • DoE supports many high performance computers, with time available through approval of written proposals.
