Pam Baggett
"Bold Plants for Timid Compositions"

Many gardeners start small when thinking about plants. Miniature leaves, short stature, and gentle pastels seem safer somehow. Yet the most exciting gardens are those that venture beyond safety by increasing contrast--juxtaposing tiny leaves with giant ones, wee plants with towering giants, and tender colors with sultry, saturated ones. Learn about powerful herbaceous plants and plant combinations, both hardy and tender, that bring boldness into your gardens and create an excitingly vibrant visual feast.

Pam Baggett is the owner of Singing Springs Nursery, a mail-order nursery specializing in uncommon tender plants and choice perennials. She curates the entrance garden dedicated to tender plants at the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC. Her articles on gardening have appeared in Horticulture, Fine Gardening, The American Gardener, and The American Cottage Gardener. Pam studied agriculture at NC State University and bio-intensive horticulture at the University of California at Santa Cruz Farm and Garden Program.

Friends of the Arboretum lectures are free to those with current membership. There is a $5.00 fee for non-members. Please bring your membership card. We will have a current membership list at the door. Memberships will be available for purchase at the door.
