NOTE - For those of you who have never been to a Friends lecture, try it, you'll like it. Lectures are easy to find with ample lighted parking about 200 feet from the door. We have drawings for many free wonderful plants at every lecture. Come early to solialize and enjoy coffee and cookies before the lectures.

We're making a "snapshot" map of the entire Arboretum as the late
Dr. J. C. Raulston left it for us. Make your contribution to
his
memory and help us out by mapping a bed or two. We'll give you
lists and maps to work with. You can help even if you're not
familiar
with many plants. Saturday and Sunday 9 to 5, Bring a clipboard!

Benefit Preview for The JC Raulston Arboretum

the crowds at this premiere party at the Raleigh Civic Center.

Twelfth Annual Guilford Horticultural Society Symposium
Full day event for those interested in learning more about gardening
in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Theme: My Garden
is My Home. Lectures by Sally McCauley, garden designer and
freelance writer, LA Jackson, editor of Carolina Gardener Magazine,
and others. Location: Guilford Agricultural Center. $30 fee includes

Friends of The JC Raulston Arboretum Lecture
Michael Hayman - "Plants Found While Building a Neighborhood
Arboretum"

NCSU Campus
Hayman led the planting of a neighborhood arboretum in front
yards in his hometown of Seneca Gardens, KY in the aftermath of
a tornado. This exciting description of their vigilante planting
which led to a city-wide initiative will have fascinating implications
for North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Fran.

Mapping Extravaganza - Part II
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The JC Raulston Arboretum
The Mapping Extravaganza on January 25 and 26 went very, with
over half the beds being mapped. We're continuing to work at
getting
a "snapshot map" of The Arb as JC left it for us. Those who are
familiar with the process are welcome to come in any time and
map a bed or two. Those who aren't should come on Tuesday or Wednesday
the first time for introduction. Then we'll have a "finish it
up" Mapping Saturday on Feb 22. Hope everyone will come to that!
