Summer 1997 Announcements Calendar
NOTE - For those of you who have never been to a Friends lecture, try it, you'll like it. Lectures are easy to find with ample lighted parking about 200 feet from the door. We have drawings for many free wonderful plants at every lecture. Come early to socialize and enjoy coffee and cookies before the lectures.

Members and Volunteers Pot Luck Picnic and Plant Swap
6:30 p.m. in the White Garden at the JC Raulston Arboretum
Bring a covered dish, serving utensil, and a plant from your
garden to swap. Plates, silverware and beverages will be provided.
Bryce Lane will give a short slide presentation. Volunteers are
needed for the day of the event to set up tables, get ice, and
generally run around. Call Mitzi (515-1632) or Diane (515-5361)
if you can help.

3-9, 1997 (Sunday-Saturday)
Perennial Plant Association Meeting
The PPA meeting, held at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle
Park is a cornucopia of gardens and garden events. Call the Perennial
Plant Association office (614-771-8431) for full details, prices,
and to sign up.

August 3 (Sunday) - Preconference tour to Greensboro
Includes visits to Jones Nursery, New Garden landscape Nursery and Gethsemanie Garden Nursery. -
August 4 (Monday) - Garden Tours and Seminars
Seminars include propagation and a series of design seminars featuring Suzanne Edney, Cole Burrell, Kim Hawks and others. -
August 5 (Tuesday) - Lectures and Concurrent Seminars
Speakers include Ritchie Bell, a video of JC giving his "native vs. non-native" talk, Ken Moore and others. Sessions include pest control in perennial production and talks by Doug Rhuren and Brent Heath. -
August 6 (Wednesday) - Tours, talks and a business meeting
Tours are to Plant Delights and Pine Knot. The day concludes with a BBQ dinner at the JC Raulston Arboretum. -
August 7 (Thursday) - More talks and seminars
Edith talks on "Big, Bold and Bodacious - Upsizing the Perennial Border" and Ann Stomp discusses plants of the future. There are various break out sessions on Thursday evening. -
August 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday) - Post conference tours

NCAN Meeting in Charlotte
Volunteers are needed the week preceding the NCAN show for plant
bagging. Mitzi needs a team of volunteers beginning Monday, August
18, through Thursday August 21 to prepare plants for this important
industry show. A dedicated team can complete the bagging work
quickly and efficiently - and it's also a lot of fun. We also
need volunteers to travel to Charlotte for the two-day show. Call
Mitzi (515-1632) to sign up.

4, 1997 (Saturday)
The Friends of The JC Raulston Arboretum Free Rare Plants Distribution
9:00 AM at the JC Raulston Arboretum
A renowned epic event in American horticulture with people
driving from Massachusetts and Georgia to participate. Over 5,000
extraordinary plants disappear in 3 minutes - don't be late! Memberships
required to participate and they will be sold on site the day
of the distribution - come at 8:00 AM to purchase. Bring boxes
and bags to efficiently stash and haul your booty.
Volunteers are needed on Friday October 3 and on Saturday for
set up, T-shirt sales and other event activities.
