Arboretum Tour: Richmond, VA - Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and

Interim Director Bryce Lane recently visited both of these
gardens and came back so impressed that he insisted on leading
an Arboretum tour. The bus tour will leave from the Arboretum
at 7:00 am sharp and arrive at Lewis Ginter at 9:30 am. After
a one hour guided tour, there will be plenty of time for wandering
the garden. A box lunch can be eaten in the cafeteria or anywhere
on the grounds. Around 1:00-1:30 pm we will leave for nearby
Maymont,
which is billed as "Richmond's Gilded Age Treasure on the James
River." Features include renovated Japanese and Italian gardens,

turn-of-the-century
mansion. We'll leave Maymont around 5:00 pm, arriving back at
the Arboretum at 7:30 pm. Join Bryce Lane and other arboretum
staff on this excellent little fall outing to see some beautiful
gardens practically in our own backyards. The tour fee is $45.00,

Growers and Retailers: Building More Profitable Businesses Together
JC Raulston Arboretum, Raleigh, NC
JC was very keen on having the Arboretum more directly involved
with the retail nursery industry. He saw that the Arboretum was
in a position to act as a link between wholesale growers and retailers.
With the JC Raulston Selections program, his vision has begun
to take shape. This seminar, co-sponsored by the North Carolina
Association of Nurseryman, features marketing consultant Judy
Sharpton from Georgia and nurseryman David Johnson from Johnson's
Nursery. In the morning, Judy and David will explore ways people
who sell plants can, with better marketing, make greater profits.
David started the successful Monarch Collection campaign and has
been insturmental with the JC Raulston Selections. In the afternoon,
people will tour the Arboretum to see the JC Raulston Selection
plants in the landscape and future prospects now being propagated
in the greenhouse. The $20.00 fee includes lunch. The seminar
is at the Arboretum, so enrollment is limited due to seating.
Send $20.00 payable to the NC Agricultural Foundation to: Growers
and Retailers Seminar, JC Raulston Arboretum, Box 7609, JC Raulston
Arboretum, Raleigh, NC 27695.
