Hybrid Sweetshrub
Calycanthus 'Venus'
A Genetic Reunion from Continents Apart
Sweetshrubs, Calycanthus (North America, Asia), are ancient flowering plants dating back to the time of the dinosaurs. Today, breeders are inspired by their fragrant flowers, attractive foliage, and broad adaptability.
'Venus' is a complex hybrid whose pedigree includes features from three related taxa: C. chinensis, C. floridus, and C. occidentalis. The result is this medium-sized, deciduous shrub. In spring, its ivory-yellow buds open to form 2"-4", fragrant, white, magnolia-like flowers.
