June 23, 2012 (Saturday)
9:00 AM–4:00 PM
If you're ready to take your garden photographs to the next level, this day-long photography workshop is for you. From the smallest flower to big picture garden vistas, go beyond point and shoot with your digital camera.
Students receive instruction in three areas:
- Terminology and Technology
- Composition and Creativity
- Before and After the Shoot
The course is geared to more advanced cameras with shutter and aperture priority, however, DSLR cameras are not required. Bring your camera equipment and manual and prepare to shoot the Arboretum at its early summer peak.
Experts in Canon, Nikon, and Olympus cameras will be available to answer your questions. As with all workshops, space is limited and advance registration is required.

What are Leaf Buck$? They are coupons that come in a booklet of five and will be used as a child's ticket for various JCRA children's programs. Each Family/Dual and above membership is eligible for one booklet—a $50 value. One Leaf Buck will be used to register one child for most children's programs offered. Additional booklets may be purchased for $50, if needed.
The new Leaf Buck$ will be distributed at the Summer Solstice Ice Cream Social on June 20, 2012, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Please join us for this free family fun event.
Family/Dual and above members will be receiving more information in the mail very soon. While here, the whole family can participate in a collaborative weaving project, enjoy fun family activities, and learn about the Arboretum's children's programs. And don't forget to catch the sunset from on top of the A. E. Finley Rooftop Terrace at the end of the night. This is a free activity for children of all ages. Advance registration is requested.
To register for these children's programs, please contact Elizabeth Overcash, children's program coordinator, at elizabeth_overcash@ncsu.edu or (919) 513-7007. Space is limited.
A Call for Help
Do you like working with children and plants? We need more children's program volunteers to help with our growing program. Possible jobs range from assisting with the planning of programs to the preparation of materials to actual work on the day of the program. Recent programs have transformed volunteers into clouds of rain and sun, testers of whether a blueberry sinks or floats, and master artists with vegetables. To join the crew, please contact Elizabeth Overcash, children's program coordinator, at elizabeth_overcash@ncsu.edu or (919) 513-7007.
