Part I: Community Action

Introduction Getting Started Lesson Plans Service Learning

Introduction

This component of the project involves service learning conducted after school hours. In order to get this component operational, there must be a teacher who is willing to learn about service learning and implement it correctly with a group of students. This can be a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Service learning gives children the opportunity to explore their school and community and make meaningful connections. Each service learning project undertaken has the potential to teach information related to every subject area in the curriculum. Because of the power of service learning, it is certainly worth the effort it takes to get a program up and running. The focus of our COMMUNITY ACTION program is the local environment. Students found that they can indeed make a difference in their school and community. Included in this section are activities, suggestions, and resources that can be helpful to educators as they organize a COMMUNITY ACTION group! Any questions? Be sure to contact me at cmteach25@yahoo.com.
