Nortel, in conjunction with partners including schools, technology innovators and educational research organizations, has developed a set of tools to help guide the critical transition to 21st century learning environments. These resources include models for professional development, meaningful integration of technology, and the creation of work that is project-based, constructivist and interdisciplinary to ensure that learning communities are aligned with practice in a rapidly changing, global economy.
A highly skilled middle school teacher, selected as a Kenan Fellow, will pilot a model for use by the Kenan Fellows Program and intended to serve as a roadmap for efforts by other educators. The Fellow will work with the Nortel LearniT 21st Century e-Teacher initiative to create a customized version of the model for North Carolina educators. They will develop an integrated learning environment that enables teachers to prepare today's students for profound changes in the world and workplace. It will incorporate best practices in integration across disciplines, and model a teaching and learning environment in which appropriate technology is integral.
