North Carolina Olympians Represented in
"Going for the Gold" Exhibit

The North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, NC, is currently displaying pictures and information about famous North Carolina Olympians. Most of the programs and the admission are free.
One of the athletes featured is Harry Williamson. He was the first North Carolina resident to become an international-class track athlete. Williamson competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
Tommy Burleson went to N.C. State university and was a competitor in the 1972 U.S. men's basketball team.
In the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympics, a great handball competitor was Leora "Sam" Jones. She lived in Mount Olive and played basketball for East Carolina.
