Kerri Strug
Kerri Strug
By Marlene Lamb
My favorite athlete in the 1996 olympics is eighteen year old Kerri
Strug. She is a perfect example of hard work, perseverance, and
dedication. She doesn't get the spotlight as much as some of her other
teammates on the Women's gymnastics team, but she is good. Kerri competes for her team as much as she does for herself. She is the first one to compete and got her team motivated to do their best. She was also was the
last one to compete in the team finals.
The whole team was in her hands
to assure a victory. She was on the Vault and on her
first one she slipped. It seemed like they might not win, especially when
Kerri appeared to be limping. Kerri, however, got to her feet and performed
her second vault. She landed it perfectly and assured her team their dream
of an olyimpic gold medal! When she landed she fell to the floor holding
her leg and was carried to the hospital on a stretcher. Kerri had run a
second vault for her team with a third degree sprain in her ankle. That is
definitely what I call courage! Kerri is obviously not only a supurb
athlete, but a wonderful and caring person as well.
