Do you ever think of becoming a biologist?
Dr. Stromgren Allen has some advice to help
you achieve your goal.
| "Science is a wonderful profession.
You get to ask questions about the world you live in and try to answer
them. You get to teach others about your specific area of science
and let them know how interesting and fun it is. Nothing is more
exciting than to make a new discovery, which of course does not happen
everyday. In order to become good in your chosen field of science,
you have to study hard and have a good background in math, physics and
chemistry. If Biology is your field, you need to know a lot of background
material to set your studies in context. It is often frustrating
to learn so many things, but in the end it will serve you well. The exciting
thing about being a scientist is that you get to explore the world and
ask questions about how it works. You have a freedom to explore that
is a lot of fun.
If you already enjoy science, just keep doing it and learn as much as you can. Don't loose your enthusiasm and keep asking questions. Read as much as you can about the science you are interested in and realize that scientists only know part of the truth about a subject, they are often wrong, and the fun is to advance our knowledge in an area. You do that best, if you have carefully studied what others have done. Then go in and develop and test your ideas. The important thing is to have confidence in your results, think through what you are doing carefully and work hard at it until you succeed. Good luck in your future in science."
