Phillip Carter

Phillip M. Carter, matriculated Fall 2005, is interested in a variety of questions generated by both humanistic and social scientific approaches to language variation. In particular, he is interested in exploring answers to theoretical questions relating to the possibilities and limitations of linguistic agency, the production of linguistic subjectivities, and the relation of both to the structural, both linguistic and social. In addition, Phillip’s other research interests are in sociolinguistic meta-theory, linguistic epistemology, social dialectology, sociophonetics, and the application of Feminist, Queer, and Critical theories to the study of language variation.
