We are pleased to announce the first speaker in the TeleForum partnership between East Carolina University and North Carolina State University. Dr. Renee Hobbs from Temple University will be featured in an interactive video-conference on Monday, September 26th from 4:00-5:30 EST.
Renee Hobbs is one of the nation's leading authorities on media education. Her research examines the development of media analysis and media production skills, particularly in the context of K-12 education. Her most recent quantitative research to assess the impact of media literacy on the development of students’ reading comprehension and critical thinking skills has been published in Reading Research Quarterly. She also has interests in the uses of technology in schools, youth media production, educational multimedia design and development, and program evaluation. She has worked as a journalist and has a special interest in news making, school journalism, and the role of journalism in contemporary society.
Dr. Hobbs directs the Media Education Lab at Temple University and is a co-founder of the Alliance for a Media Literate America (AMLA), the national membership organization that hosts the National Media Education Conference. She co-directed the Ph.D. program in Mass Media and Communication at Temple University in 2004-2005 and currently hosts the Media Smart Seminars, a free professional development program for Philadelphia educators, media professionals and community leaders.
