Anne Akers, a
public school teacher for 20 years, has a master’s
degree in history from VA Tech and an MLS from East Carolina University.
Currently, she is assistant director of the Learning Technology
Resource Center (LTRC) and the coordinator of the library media
center in the College of Education at NC State University where
she is working towards her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with
an emphasis on technology.

Benjamin Dewayne Branch,
a native of Raleigh, NC, is a doctoral student at NC State University
in the Educational Research and Policy Analysis program. Dissertation
interests include hierarchical linear modeling for purposes of educational
planning.

Lynnae Flynn
is a doctoral student in science education at NC State University.
She received her BS in science education in 1995 from The University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught biology and physical
science for four years at Sanderson High School in Raleigh, NC,
before going back to graduate school in 1999. She received her MS
in science education from NCSU in 2001. Her research interests include
technology use and the “digital division” between students
of differing backgrounds.

Jackie Gottlieb
is a masters
student in training and development at NC State University. Her
research interest is in technology-focused adult training materials
specific to the skills necessary to educate utilizing technology
including teacher technology fluency. Jackie's interest in developing
educational materials also entails the assurance of its accessibility,
usability, and quality information design.

Rob Hambrick
is a Web Content Developer for the DELTA Learning Technology
Service in Online Instructional Programs at NC State University.
He has a masters degree in instructional technology, and his research
interests include the relationship between instructional technology
and pedagogy, and the effect of synchronous learning environments
upon teacher professional development and student achievement.
Prior to joining NC State,
Rob was an Instructional Designer for ICES Ltd., a small multimedia
company based in Washington, D.C. He is enrolled at Columbia Teachers
College in the Teaching and Learning with Technology program and
serves as the project manager for the NCSU Centra Service.

Rachel
McBroom is
a doctoral student in science education at NC State University.
She worked for five years in public schools as a high school science
teacher and elementary science curriculum specialist. She currently
serves as the Science Education Program Coordinator at UNC-Pembroke.
She received a B.S. in science education and chemistry from UNC-Pembroke
and a M.A. in science education from NCSU. Her research interests
include the use of technology and visualizations in science education.

Beth
Snoke Harris (former Meridian editor)
is a masters student in instructional technology. She earned a BS
in physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Beth has taught high school physics and currently works as web master
and coordinator with The
Science House. Her interests include technology integration
in science and mathematics education.

Elizabeth Michael
is a masters student in middle grades language arts. She holds a
B.A. in English and minor in history from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently working towards her initial
and Masters license in language arts education, with an initial
social studies license as well. Her interests include curriculum
integration, creative writing, and the use of technology and social
studies.

Bethany V. Smith
is a masters student in instructional technology. She earned
a BS in technology education from NC State University. Bethany has
taught in public school as well as in the corporate arena. She currently
works on the VISE project for The Friday Institute as a teaching
technician and runs the Usability Lab. Her interests include technology
integration across curricular areas.

Courtney
H. Thornton
served as the Educational Program Coordinator at the Kenan
Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science. She holds
a B.A. in chemistry and a B.S. in science education from NC State
University. She brings work experience from the public and private
sectors that includes serving as a high school chemistry teacher
and as a technician in an industrial adhesives laboratory. Courtney
completed an M.Ed. in higher education at NC State University and
is now pursuing her doctorate.

Annemarie
Timmerman
is a doctoral student in education research at NC State University.
She received her B.A., C.A.S., and M.L.S. from East Carolina University.
Annemarie has been a school library media specialist and a technology
director in Caswell County Schools, NC. Currently, she works for
the NC Department of Public Instruction as a Technology Consultant.

Shannon
White (former
Meridian editor) is
a doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction at NC State University.
She received a masters degree from NCSU in curriulum and instruction
with a focus in social studies education in 2001. Her research interests
include social studies education and instructional technology, school
and community partnerships using Geographic Information Systems
(GIS), and interdisciplinary uses of GIS in schools. Her dissertation
research is focused on student and educator perceptions of GIS and
instructional technology. She will graduate in Summer 2005.
