Australia Day

Australia Day is a national holiday honoring the country's founder Captain Arthur Phillip who discovered Sydney in 1788. Australia day wasn't declared a holiday until 1838, and was called Victoria Day until 1934. It is celebrated on the 26 of January, with songs, dancing , music , and an Australian day fair. On traditional like this, the Australians like to drink damper and billy tea. They also like pavlova, lamingtons, Vegemite, and meat pies. However no presents are given out, because it is so close to Christmas and new years eve. This is the last special event for the long holidays.
