Rainy Days (Continued)

"And so the soldiers were buried in the Mordecai Family Cemetery on Mordecai land, and when Henry Mordecai returned from the war, he officially donated 2 ¼ acres of land to the City of Raleigh, and the Cemetery was renamed Oakwood Cemetery, a name which it has kept to today. The Cemetery grew and grew, and it became the fashionable thing to do, bury your honorable dead on Oakwood. And today approximately 2,800 Confederate Soldiers are buried there, along with 5 Civil War Generals, 7 North Carolina Governors, and numerous U. S. Senators. Anyone who wants to can buy a plot of land in Oakwood and be buried there, and there is still lots of room! I even have a plot of land there, so that I can be buried next to your grandfather in the Jewish section."

"Wow! Patti Mordecai is really cool, Grandma!" Elizabeth exclaimed as the story wound to a close.

"Yeah." Emily agreed. "Is she buried in Oakwood Cemetery, too?"

"As a matter of fact, she is. Would you like to go visit her grave?"

"Yeah! Oh could we Grandma? Yay!" Elizabeth bounced up and down, up and down.

As the old woman and the two young girls stepped outside and off the front porch, the clouds shifted, revealing a bright and shining sun.
