RULE: Eligibility to serve as a Peer Mentor
Any upperclass student with a TGPA of 2.5 or greater is eligible to be a Peer Mentor with the Peer Mentor Program offered through Multicultural Student Affairs. All interested students must complete an application and interview process. Applications are available via the Student Mentor Association website and Peer Mentor website (http://www.ncsu.edu/msa/pmp) or in the Multicultural Student Affairs office (1107 Pullen Hall). Selected mentors are required to take ECD 244 during their first semester of mentoring, unless otherwise approved by the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs.

RULE: To obtain a mentor through the Peer Mentor Program
Any first year (freshman) student desiring a mentor may obtain a mentor through the Peer Mentor Program. If the first year student is not automatically assigned a mentor (based upon participation in the African American or Native American Symposiums or membership in one of the historically underrepresented groups targeted for retention efforts through MSA), they must notify Multicultural Student Affairs of their interest in obtaining a mentor by completing an Application for Mentoring Form located in the Multicultural Student Affairs Office (1107 Pullen Hall). Assignment of a mentor is based upon availability of student volunteer mentors at the time of application.

RULE: Participation in the Freshman Honors Convocation
Any first year (freshman) student obtaining a 3.0 or greater GPA during the fall semester of their first year may be recognized during the Freshman Honors Convocation, coordinated by Multicultural Student Affairs. If the student is not automatically solicited as an honoree for this program (based upon membership in one of the historically underrepresented groups targeted for retention efforts through MSA), they must notify Multicultural Student Affairs by completing an Honorable Student Recognition Form located in the Multicultural Student Affairs office (1107 Pullen Hall) by January 10th or at least 3 weeks prior to the scheduled program date.

RULE: Eligibility to serve as a Symposium Counselor
Any upperclass student with a TGPA of 2.7 or greater is eligible to be a Symposium Counselor for the African American or Native American Symposiums coordinated through the Department of Multicultural Student Affairs. All interested students must attend a counselor information session, complete an application, individual and group interview process. Applications are available via our website or our office, located at 1107 Pullen Hall. Selected counselors are required to participate in staff training prior to the African American or Native American Symposiums.

RULE: Participation in the African American or Native American Symposiums
Any incoming first year (freshman) or transfer student desiring may participate in the African American and/or Native American Symposiums. If the student is not automatically solicited to participate (based upon membership in one of the historically underrepresented groups targeted for retention efforts through MSA), they must notify Multicultural Student Affairs by phone (919) 515-3125 or mail (1107 Pullen Hall, Campus Box 7314, Raleigh, NC 27695-7314) or register on-line for the Symposium session date designated for their college and/or time of attending New Student Orientation.
