Despite economic restraints, the Music Department can still find ways to be innovative, and raise our standards to offer more choice to students! Thus, we have reworked our minor to offer the best music education possible at NC State. The music minor, administered by CHASS, offers four new minors to target music students: Performance, Composition, History, and Liberal Arts. Performance minors engage in one-on-one training for each semester of their minor, working to improve their quality of musicianship. Performance minors also participate in four semesters of an ensemble and present a student recital at the completion of their studies. Composition minors explore their musicality by composing original pieces. History minors investigate music of the past, with concentrations ranging from 17th century music to the history of jazz. Liberal Arts minors are given the opportunity to develop and expand their musical capabilities. Music minors are open to all NC State students. Experience with music, while helpful, is not necessary for students to begin some minors. We encourage you to seek out more information about the minor; by contacting Dr. John Fuller for additional questions (john_fuller@ncsu.edu). Music@NCState, we’re more than meets the ear!
