The NC State University Music Department offers a variety of courses, many of which may be taken to fulfill general education requirements. Any course may be taken as a free elective.
For the more advanced student, a music minor is available. The minor is designed for the qualified undergraduate student wishing to engage in the serious study of music with a curricular framework.
Three emphases are offered in the music minor: Theory/Composition, History/Literature, and Performance (brass, woodwinds, piano, percussion, voice, and strings). A Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in music is available through the Arts Studies Program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
