Jazz Auditions
When: August 26-29 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm
Where: Dr. Parker's office in Price Music Center, room 210
Expectations: A prepared piece that will be posted on the department website no later than one week before the 1st day of classes, sight-reading, all 12 major scales, and optional improvisation.

Wind Ensemble Auditions
When:
August 22, 27, 29 from 10:00am to Noon and 1:00-4:00pm
August 23, 26, 28, 30 from 10:00am to Noon and 1:00-2:30pm
Where: Dr. Garcia's office in Price Music Center, room 215.
All woodwind and brass players should be prepared to play the following:
- All 12 major scales with arpeggios (2 or 3 octaves where applicable).
- The chromatic scale from your lowest comfortable note to your highest, and back down (tongued or slurred).
- All of the excerpt(s) listed in the pdf file for your instrument.
String bass players should prepare up to 5 minutes of solo material that best displays your ability level.
Percussionists should prepare at least two short pieces on any two of the following: Snare Drum, Keyboard Percussion, or Timpani.

Choral Auditions
When: August 21-23 and 26-27 from 10:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00 to 5:00 in 10 minute blocks of time.
Where: Dr. Leaf's Studio, Room 214 Price Music Center
Expectations: Each audition is about 10 minutes long, and consists of vocalizing, singing a familiar song, and other basic choral skill evaluation. Those auditioning do not need to prepare a song in advance.

Orchestra Auditions
When: August 21, 26, or 28 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
Where: 120 Price Music Center
Expectations:
- Solo or orchestral excerpts of your choice - generally about 2-3 minutes of music. Solos could be pieces studied in private lessons, an all-state solo, or standard repetoire for your instrument. The piece or excerpt should show your playing at its best. No accompaniment is needed.
- Scales - Two scales of your choice, three octaves if possible.
- Sight-reading may be requested.
Auditions for string players are primarily to determine if players are capable of handling orchestra repertoire and as a factor in seating. Wind and brass positions are competitive.
All new and returning student musicians must audition.
New community musicians must audition. Returning community players are exempt.

Marching Band Auditions
When: First day of Orientation from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, or Band Camp, or by appointment.
Where: Price Music Center
Expectations:
-All Brass and Woodwind auditions involve all major scales and arpeggios as well as sight reading.
-Instruments will be provided during freshman orientation if you do not have your own. Please bring your own mouthpiece and reed.
-All Color Guard and Drum Line auditions are held during the first couple of days of band camp beginning on Wednesday, August 14. All prospective new Guard and Drum Line members need to come to Price Music Center to fill out important paperwork between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm on the first day of their summer orientation session.

Pipes and Drums Auditions
North Carolina State University Pipes and Drums is a Grade IV band composed of students and community members. Experienced pipers or drummers should schedule an audition with Darrell Thompson, curidin@earthlink.net, 919 949-1281.
Community members brand new to piping are considered but only in the fall semester and still need to make an appointment. NCSU students can learn to play for the band by taking the Beginning Bagpipe Class (MUS 152) offered each semester. For any additional information visit www.ncsupipesanddrums.com.

When: Mon, August 19, 10:00 AM. Simply show up with a pencil. The test will take one hour.
