Wayne Leechford is the instructor of applied saxophone at NC State University. He teaches students in the music minor program. He holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in saxophone performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where his principal teacher was classical tenor saxophone virtuoso, Jame Houlik. In addition, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management with a minor in Fine Arts from NC State University. He has taught on the faculties of Shaw University, Ravenscroft School, and is a clinician for local middle and high school band programs.
Wayne is an active performing musician and has performed and toured with artists such as New Century Saxophone Quartet, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Coasters, Clay Aiken, Regis Philbin, Susan Lucci, Lorna Luft, Debbie Gibson, Molly Ringwald, Tommy Tune, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and The Cab Calloway Orchestra. Wayne performs locally in the orchestra pits for nationally touring Broadway shows and is the musician contractor for the Durham Performing Arts Center. He has played locally with the Raleigh Symphony, Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, North Carolina Wind Orchestra, and North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra.
