Research Summary
Synthesis of bulk nanostructured materials by severe plastic deformation methods. Characterization of the structure by x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy methods. Studies funded by NSF and ONR address the thermal stability of nanocrystalline microstructures as stabilized by solute segregation to grain boundaries. Deformation behavior of nanocrystalline metals as a function of grain size and stacking fault energy (funded by NSF, Materials World Network). Thermoelectric properties of bulk nanocrystalline n-type and p-type thermoelectric materials (funded by DARPA).
