ROTC Physical Fitness requirements are similar to those required of all active
duty Navy personnel. Midshipmen, Officer Candidates, and MECEP
Students are required by Navy regulations to work out three times
a week. Once a week the entire battalion gets together and conducts
a one hour PT session. This may consist of running or other aerobic
exercise followed by a period of calestenics. The other two times
a week NROTC personnel may exercise in any format they choose.
The Honor system is used, and you are trusted to be honest about
your exercise program.
Twice a year (once in the Fall and once in the Spring) all personnel will participate
in a Physical Readiness Test (PRT). The Physical readiness test
is consists of push-ups, sit-ups (Navy), pull-ups (Marines), and
a timed run. Failure to meet the minimum physical fitness standards
(either by falling out of battalion PT, failing a PRT due to inability,
or failing a PRT due to out of tolerance body fat) will result
in an individual being placed on Supplemental PT.
Supplemental PT is conducted three times a week (with one of those days being
normal battalion PT). The Officer Candidates of Charlie Company
continue the battalion PT program during the summer session. Midshipmen
and MECEP Students do not perform battalion PT in the Summer session.
Twice a year (usually after the PRT) there is a platoon level competition to
determine which platoon is in the best physical condition. This
Field Meet is designed to be fun and challenging.
