Papers are typically 15 minutes. List any special equipment that you may need. Overhead projectors will be available. Send abstracts to Hubisz@unity.ncsu.edu using Word or as a text file. You will immediately be notified if there is a problem. U.S. Mail is certainly acceptable, but the secretary needs time to get the program put together.

There is a $100 prize for the best undergraduate student paper, a $100 prize for the best graduate student paper, and a prize of $150 towards expenses to present a similar paper at a national meeting suitably noting the support of the NCS-AAPT for the best pedagogical paper. Please keep notes and make recommendations to any section officer to aid in their choice. Hugh Haskell is chairman of the Awards Committee. A new award designed to recognize superior undergraduate students has been established that carries with it an award of $100. There is also the Walter C. Connolly Award ("An award to recognize outstanding pre-college teachers in the Section.") We thank our sponsors for contributing to support these awards.
Last Fall Meeting the prize of $100 for the Best Undergraduate Student paper went to Jean Rockford of the College of Charleston for The Electronic Structure of Chlorophyll a Cation Radicals as Determined from ESEEM Spectroscopy.
The prize for the Best Pedagogical paper went to J. B. Sharma of Gainesville College for "Constructing Simulations using Interactive Physics for Enabling Physics Learning and K-12 Outreach." He will receive $150 toward expenses to attend a national meeting to present a similar paper.

Rooms are reserved at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown for the evening of Friday March 21st, 2003. We have reserved 35 double occupancy rooms and 15 single occupancy rooms for the evening. Additional rooms are available if needed. All rooms are $60.00 per night (there is no additional charge for the second person in the double occupancy room). To get this rate, mention that you are with the NCS-AAPT Block. All reservations must be made by February 27th, 2003, by calling the toll-free number (800) 228-9290. You may check in on Friday afternoon after 3:00 pm and you must check out by 11:00 am on Saturday. Parking is available on site for a one-time fee of $6.00 per registered vehicle.
For those that arrive early, feel free to get a physical workout in the Marriotts weight room (with free weights and machine weights), take a stroll on the treadmill, pump up your heart in the aerobics room, or simply cool down with a few laps in the indoor swimming pool. If youre one with a more transcendental mindset, enjoy the Marriotts tanning salon and massage parlor, followed by a relaxing dip in the indoor Jacuzzi or sauna.
From I-85 North, exit 122B (Highway 220 North / Coliseum area). The exit road changes into Freeman Mill Road. Follow Freeman Mill Road approximately 5 miles into the downtown area. Turn right on Smith Street. Follow Smith Street to Greene Street. Turn right on Greene Street. The hotel entrance is located 2 blocks on the left.
Follow I-85 South / I-40 West to the Elm / Eugene Street exit (#125). At the stoplight, turn right on Elm / Eugene Street. Follow Elm / Eugene Street into the downtown area. From Highway 29 (coming from
Reidsville, NC or Danville, VA)
Follow Highway 29 South towards Greensboro, taking the Cone Boulevard exit as you approach town. At the top of the exit ramps hill, turn right onto Cone Boulevard. Follow Cone Boulevard approximately 3 miles to Elm Street. Turn left onto Elm Street. Follow Elm Street into the downtown area. Turn right onto Lindsay Street. At the first stoplight, bear left onto Greene Street. The hotel entrance is located on the left.
I-40 East (coming from
Winston-Salem, NC)
Follow I-40 East to Freeman Mill Road (exit 218B). Follow Freeman Mill Road approximately 5 miles into the downtown area. Battleground Avenue becomes Smith Street. Follow Smith Street to Greene Street. Turn right on Greene Street. The hotel entrance is located 2 blocks on the left.
Highway 220 South becomes Battleground Avenue as you approach Greensboro. Continue on Battleground Avenue to the downtown area. Battleground Avenue becomes Smith Street. Follow Smith Street to Greene Street. Turn right on Greene Street. The hotel entrance is located 2 blocks on the left.
Highway 220 North becomes Freeman Mill Road. Follow Freeman Mill Road into the downtown area. Turn right on Smith Street. Follow Smith Street to Greene Street. Turn right on Greene Street. The hotel entrance is located 2 blocks on the left.
Follow Highway 421 to I-85 South. Then follow directions from I-85 South.
Highway 421 South turns into Market Street. Follow Market Street into downtown. Turn left onto Elm Street. Go about ½ mile on Elm Street to Lindsay Street. Turn left onto Lindsay Street. At next stoplight, turn left onto Greene Street. The hotel entrance is on the left.

Local Arrangements
Coffee and doughnuts will be available. Lunch is an all-you-can-eat menu ranging from simple soup, salad, and sandwiches to grilled items and dinner foods. We will meet in a cordoned-off area of the cafeteria where we will also have our business meeting, including the election.
