Communications Division

Telecommunicators work 24 hours a day answering thousands of telephone calls, recording information and assigning appropriate personnel to handle situations on campus. In the Communication Center, they have direct access to the Division of Crime Information and National Crime Information Center to perform stolen item checks, vehicle registrations, and warrant checks.

Direct lines give instant access to Raleigh Emergency Communications for dispatch of fire and medical responders. A 24 hour university operated EMS and Fire Protection system is also activated by group page here. Communicators have a direct line to a central receiving system where hundreds of intrusion and fire alarms on campus are monitored. A TDD gives communication to hearing impaired members of the community. The campus 5000 line voice mail system is another means of communicating instantly with the community. A local area network is now on line in the communications center and gives all Campus Police employees E mail, internet access and huge information sharing capabilities. Newsgroups on campus can be posted with information on a daily basis from the center.

Patrol Operations

Patrol Operations has the responsibility to pro-actively patrol the campus in an effort to prevent crime, solve problems, provide escorts, serve as building liaisons, and investigate crimes and accidents within our jurisdiction--all while building partnerships with the campus community.

Patrol officers are divided into four squads. We utilize patrol cars, numerous bicycles, and several all-terrain vehicles. The latter of this group is utilized to deter suspicious activity occurring in undeveloped areas of campus, as well as at football games and concerts. Our bicycles easily maneuver in densely populated areas and provide support to many miles we log patrolling on foot.
