Admissions
Incoming high school students are automatically invited to join the University Scholars Program (USP) after they have been accepted to the university, if they meet at least 2 of the following 3 criteria:
1) Top 5% of graduating class
2) 1300 on the traditional SAT (Critical Reading and Math) or 30 on the ACT Composite
3) Converted GPA of 4.5 or Nonconverted GPA of 3.9
Students who do not meet these criteria are encouraged to apply to the program using the online application below. Invitation materials are sent by email and mail beginning in January each year. Please contact Allison Medlin, Associate Director, at 919.513.3491 to determine if you will be automatically invited or if you should apply.
University Scholars Application for high school seniors
First year students with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (3.75 for students in CALS and Engineering) after their first semester at NC State are invited to join the USP mid-year and begin the program in the spring.
The University Scholars Program is geared toward new freshmen, as they will have enough time at NC State to complete the requirements of the program and they are more likely to benefit from the residential component of the program. Transfer student and upperclassmen applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Allison Medlin, Associate Director, at 919.513.3491 for more information.
