Scholars Village
University Scholars Program : Scholars Village

"Living in Sullivan helped me become more involved not only in the NCSU family but also in the diverse and rich "culture" of the Scholars Program. It allowed me to network on many levels. I felt that I was surrounded by students who shared my passion and dedication to learning."
-Allison Barbour, '09, Social Work

“I definitely felt more connected living in the Scholars Village. I instantly had room and suitemates with a common tie through the program. This made attending events more fun because I already knew other students involved with Scholars.”
- A.J. Klingenmaier, '08, Art and Design

Scholars Village Mission Statement:
The Scholars Village is a dynamic living and learning community that enhances the intellectual exploration and personal development of its residents.  The village, a collaborative effort between the University Scholars Program and University Housing, offers students a wide range of educational and social opportunities that ease the transition to college life and help students make connections with their peers, NC State, and the world around them.

Scholars Village Residents will:

  • Participate in a variety of cultural, service and social activities.
  • Engage in meaningful dialogue about important social and political issues.
  • Build personal connections through the interaction with village staff and members of the NC State community.
  • Have access to residential resources, including specially trained student and professional staff, computer lab, lounges and classroom.
  • Explore opportunities for professional and leadership development.
  • Create an inclusive residential environment.
  • Be fully integrated into the University Scholars Program.
  • Foster a community of academic excellence.

New for Fall 2009!
Beginning in Fall 2009, the Scholars Village will be housed on Floors 2-4 in Sullivan Residence Hall, and will be limited to first year University Scholars. Every village resident will participate in a Village In Action (VIA) group and will be given a room assignment in proximity with the other members of their VIA group. Through the VIA program, village residents will take part in a series of specially-planned events that will allow them to interact closely with their peers, an upper class Scholars Village Assistant (SVA), and a professional staff member. These events will also count towards their Scholars Forum events requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) How do I apply to live in the Scholars Village?
After you have accepted our invitation to join the University Scholars Program, we will list you as a University Scholar in the Student Information System. Once this has happened, a new prompt will appear in your housing application which allows you to apply to live in the Scholars Village. In the meantime, when you are filling out your Housing Application you can request Sullivan Hall as your first choice residence hall.

2) Can I live in the Scholars Village if my preferred roommate is not in the University Scholars Program?
While only first year University Scholars can live in the Scholars Village, all University Scholars (and their preferred roommates) are encouraged and welcome to live in Sullivan Hall on Floors 5-12. While they will not be able to participate in the Village In Action program, they will have the benefit of living in close proximity to other University Scholars, the USP Office and many Scholars Forum activities.
