The North Carolina State Women's Center was founded in 1991 and it has been providing service to the women students, faculty and staff on campus ever since.
The Women's Center Staff consists of three full-time positions - a Director, an Assistant Director and an Office Manager. Currently, the Women's Center also has a graduate assistant, two graduate interns, and two work study students. We also have many wonderful volunteers who support and help in organizing the various events planned by the Women's Center. |

Shannon came to the Women's Center in September, 2005. Although new to us, she is a veteran with women and gender issues. Shannon spent nine years at Duke University and was the Program Coordinator for their Women's Center. She received her bachelor's degree in social sciences from NC State and returned to NC State where she is pursuing her doctoral degree in higher education. Shannon said this is like "coming home" for her and she is excited to part of the NC State community.
Laci joined the Women's Center in April, 2004. Before the Women's Center, Laci worked in University Housing as a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC). She earned her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and her graduate degree from Indiana State University. Laci grew up in Washington, DC and has always thought women could do anything. She comments that when she was a toddler her mother would dress her in a t-shirt that read, "A woman's place is in the House ... and in the Senate."
Bryony is originally from Fayetteville, NC. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work from UNC-Pembroke. After two years working as a foster care/adoptions social worker, Bryony returned to school to pursue a Masters degree in social work. She is in the social work at UNC-Chapel Hill and "appreciative of the Wolfpack not holding that against me." Her favorite saying: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, its the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
Gail is a senior who began working as a work study student in the Women's Center at the beginning of her first year. Gail came to NC State from Franklin, Virgina. Spend a few minutes with Gail and you'll soon discover her love of animals. Gail has a double major in Animal Science and in Poultry Science. In addition to working in the Women's Center, Gail spends her weekends working at an animal hospital.
Keara began working in the Women's Center in the fall of 2005. She is originally from Monroe, NC and is a sophomore this year. She has a genuine interest in people and her warm personality immediately puts others at ease.
A native of California, Lois and her family moved to North Carolina in 1989. She began working at NC State in 1991 as an office assistant at the Center for Universal Design. In 1996, she joined the Model Clinical Teaching Network as a program assistant. When the Network offices closed in 1999, she accepted a student services assistant position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. She found her way to the Women's Center in October of 2002. When she isn't working, Lois takes classes and.when time permits, she enjoys various crafts (painting, sewing, knitting, etc.) and likes to cook.
