Foreign Students

Foreign Nationals with valid Permanent Residence or Asylum Status should submit the NDS Application to the Non-Degree Studies Program with a copy of their Green Card or documentation of their valid Asylum Status.

  1. Fill out a Non-Degree Studies Application and submit it to the NDS Program. NDS will hold student forms in pending until we have received approval to make you eligible to register by the Office of International Services (OIS).

For questions about this form please call Registration and Records at 919.515.2572.
  2. Read the instructions carefully and complete the International Clearance for NDS form and submit to Distance Education with their required documentation.

For questions about this form please call DE at 919.515.9030 or 886.GOSTATE (toll free).
  3. Students who have lived in North Carolina for more than 12 months may be eligible under certain circumstances for North Carolina residency for tuition purposes (in-state tuition rates). To be considered for in-state tuition students need to complete the Residence and Tuition Status Application and the Residence Status Supplemental form for foreign nationals. Submit both of these forms to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Undergraduate Admissions will notify students by mail of their residence status after reviewing their forms and documentation. Students declared out-of-state residents for tuition purposes are still able to take classes at NC State, but will pay higher out-of-state tuition rate.

For questions about these forms please call Undergraduate Admissions at 919.515.2434.
  4. OIS emails NDS the names of approved students on a daily basis. Once NDS has received notification of a foreign national’s approval to take classes NDS will email the student all the information necessary for the student to register. See the registration page for more information on using MyPack Portal
  5. Review information on student resources.
